Paris 2024 from a MEMOSIAN’s experience:
We have two perspectives of the MEMOSIAN’s experience at the Paris Olympic Games. First, from just-graduated MEMOS XXVI Rida Ahmed. The second, much-loved MEMOS Professor Jean-Loup Chappelet.
Rida Ahmed from MEMOS XXVI
Manager, Awareness Raising and Capacity Building” and also as a dual role at the Games, first part working on Athlete Engagement at the Village, and secondly delivering capacity building workshops for NOCs and IFs.
“Paris 2024 was truly a transformative experience, and I know I’m not alone in saying this. My role in the IOC’s integrity campaign activations allowed me to engage directly with athletes and their entourage, and learn from them about the culture of fair play and ethical competition in their sports. I also had the privilege of meeting numerous MEMOSians via the NOC workshops conducted on behalf of the Olympic Movement Unit PMC, which also provided a lot of invaluable insights into the challenges and perspectives of different countries and regions.
Aside from bumping to MEMOSians across all corners of Paris, my other highlights included welcoming Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousufzai to the Olympic Village. Her presence inspired athletes and officials, reinforcing the Games’ message of peace and unity through sport. The highlight of all highlights of course was witnessing Pakistan’s historic triumph at Stade de France. After a 32-year wait, the nation secured its first Gold in 40 years, while breaking an 118-year Olympic record in the process. Being able to witness such a moment live will be a memory which will last with me till the end.”
