MEMOSIAN News: The Passing of Lukman Niode

It is with great sadness we share the news of the death of Lukman Niode, MEMOS XIX in English due to COVID-19. In 2016, Olympic Swimmer Lukman Niode graduated from the MEMOS program with the project, “How to Improve Indonesia Sport Performance? Lessons Learned from Nations of the World with Established Sports Excellence.

Lukman was a gold medalist in the 1983 Southeast Asian Games in Singapore and participated in the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, USA. Following his retirement from the sport, he became an official at the National Sports Council in Indonesia. He later went on to lead Indonesia’s Athletes Commission and was serving as the Secretary General for the Indonesia Olympians Association at the time of his passing.

From his tutor, Lisa Delpy Neirotti “It was an honor to work with Lukman as his tutor. His passion to improve governance and opportunities for athletes in Indonesia was strong and Luke continued his project beyond MEMOS. Personally, it was a pleasure staying in touch and he will truly be missed. My condolences to his family whom he loved so much.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, loved ones, the MEMOS XI
