MEMOSian News: Anushil Kumar
FrFFrom MEMOSian Anushil Kumar from Fiji of MEMOS XXV in English.
The MEMOS programme has had a strong and meaningful impact on my professional journey since I graduated in September 2023.
Soon after completing the programme, a new role was created within my organisation and I was appointed as the General Manager Operations of Fiji Football Association in November 2023. This was a major step forward in my career and gave me the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills I gained through MEMOS in a practical and leadership role.
I also continued my involvement with the Fiji National Olympic Committee as one of the General Managers of Team Fiji at the Pacific Games 2023 and the Pacific Mini Games 2025. These experiences allowed me to work closely within the Olympic environment and contribute to the preparation and delivery of multi sport events.
In 2024, I was honoured to receive the 2023 Administrator of the Year Award at the Fiji Sports Awards, which was a proud moment in my career and a reflection of the work I have been able to do in sports administration.
In the same year, I was also invited alongside our former Technical Director to present part of my MEMOS thesis at the Step Up Oceania 2.0 Conference for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, where I spoke on strengthening high performance and sport based strategies to support national development.
In 2025, I took on one of the biggest challenges of my career. I led the bidding process to secure Fiji’s first ever professional football licence. The process was highly competitive, but we were successful. Today, Bula FC is the only professional football club from Fiji and is competing in the inaugural OFC Professional League. The team has performed strongly, finishing third after the league stage and now moving into the playoff rounds in Auckland.
I currently serve as the Interim Chief Executive Officer of the club, where I continue to apply the leadership, strategic thinking, and management skills developed through MEMOS.
The MEMOS programme has helped shape my thinking, strengthened my confidence, and prepared me to take on greater responsibilities in sport. It has given me the tools to lead, to innovate, and to contribute to the growth of sport in Fiji and the region.
I am proud to be part of the MEMOS network and grateful for the impact it has had on my career and personal development.
