Professor Jean-Loup Chappelet: Looks Back at his time with MEMOS

The MEMOS Community has been extremely fortunate to have Professor Jean-Loup Chappelet with us since 1994. The graduation of MEMOS XXVII in Lausanne was his last session as a tutor with MEMOS, as a small token of our appreciation of him, we’ve asked him a few questions about his time with MEMOS.

  • How did you first hear about MEMOS? What year was it?
    • It was in 1994 and I was put in charge of the last module (project work).
  • What roles have you had during your time with MEMOS?
    • I was first in charge of projects, then MEMOS Director (1999-2012), then tutor (until 2025)
  • What has been your favorite change to the program during your time with MEMOS?
    • Better and better MEMOS projects by the participants, first from Europe, then from all over the world.
  • Do you have a favorite city for a MEMOS session? Why?
    • Lausanne, my hometown, of course, and also Beijing, where I lived in the beginning of the 1980s
  • Is there anything else you would like to share with the MEMOS Community?
    • Make sure the programme continues to improve over the years
  • Will we see you at the MEMOS Convention in Rome?
    • Yes, of course. This is where the programme started… Looking forward to see many Memosians!

Thank you for your wisdom and leadership.

We look forward to spending more time with you in Rome, and keeping in touch!
