From MEMOS XXVI Public Presentations: Dr. Uroš Mohorič
Last month, we started our series of sharing MEMOS XXVI in English public presentations to highlight a few outstanding projects and give future MEMOS hopefuls and idea of what to expect for their public presentations.
Next up, we have MEMOSIAN Dr. Uroš Mohorič from The Olympic Committee of Slovenia with his project titled, “An Action plan for the organization of sports events in accordance with the principles of carbon footprint reduction.”
The Project Description: “Sustainability is an increasingly important area in today’s society, which needs to be realized in all social areas, including sports. Sports events are one of the parts of sports where the use of sustainable methods and solutions can influence the reduction of the carbon footprint. Sports events have their own legalities and need to ensure certain conditions both for athletes, medias, organizers, visitors and for all other participants.
In the project, we first check the guidelines and sustainability orientations of umbrella sports organizations and event organizers in other areas. Afterwards we examine which sustainable recommendations can be meaningfully implemented in the organization of sports events based on already sustainably organized sports events. The next step is an analysis of the following sustainability guidelines among the organizers of sports events at the national level. Based on the steps mentioned above, guidelines and recommendations in the field of sustainability for organizers of sports events has been formulated.”
